Speak Up When You're Down

This month is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, in case you didn't know. I didn't but I do now and it happens to be something I'm very passionate about. When I learned about the PSI (Postpartum Support International) 2013 BlogHop it sounded like a great way to raise awareness. I love the "Speak up when you're down" phrase. You can read more on their website: PSI's first blog hop for Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month

I decided it would be good for me to write out my story and then I could decide if I wanted to share it or not.

My rough draft was over 2300 words but the guidelines limit blog posts to 500-1000 words so I had to edit it quite a bit! The theme this year is in recovery and coping so I tried to focus on those parts and leave out anything that might be emotional triggers.

I hope more women will continue to share their stories and empower others to reach out for help and know they're not alone.

Spring cleaning

Amber, do you want these? I just want to pass them on to someone who would use them. Cute little wool pants and a pair of shorties. Knit with love <3

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older and I'm getting older too

Where is my little 6 pound 12 oz baby?! She is so big now. No idea how much she actually weighs but she wears 12-18 mo clothing so she's not big for her age. Just really strong and advanced. LOL I love to say she's the smartest and cutest baby in the world! Of course I'm slightly biased cuz she's mine. :)

First Stitches

So today has been a nightmare. Eden was having a nap on Gavin's big boy bed and I just had two pillows on each side of the bed to prevent her from rolling off. Ya so that technique is obviously not guaranteed for safety. That's not new information. But we still need to get shades for her window because the sun just blares through her curtains and it's too bright for napping. That's why I had her in Gavin's room.

So she was having a nice nap and I was keeping Gavin entertained with painting Christmas ornaments. After that he was begging me to play hockey in the basement (what else is new?)

So we were in the basement and I was "watching his game" when I hear a loud THUMP!

Instantly I knew Eden rolled off the bed and I ran up the stairs so fast but I didn't eat her crying. I found her face down on Gavin's floor. You know that long pause before a baby starts to really WAIL?!! I picked her up and her whole face was covered in blood. She exhaled and just started screaming! I didn't know where the blood was coming from and I instantly just called 911.

John was out DJing a school dance and he had the truck with the car seats.

I could not even hear the 911 operator because Eden was screaming. He told me to put her down so I could hear but I wouldn't. Gavin was so scared. I got a wad of paper towel and dabbed her face and saw a puncture wound in the middle of her forehead. It was so scary. I put pressure on it and the bleeding was under control. It was horrible.

It took about ten minutes for the ambulance to come. She freaked out even more when I laid her on the couch so they could look at her. We cleaned her up and she was ok as long as I could hold her.

We looked in Gavin's room to see what she fell on. I wasn't sure because I picked her up and ran for the phone as soon as I saw all the blood.

I could clearly see after that she fell on the wooden farm puzzle on the floor. She fell right into the plastic peg sticking up out of the puzzle piece. The cow is covered in blood :(

We had to take a ride in the ambulance and Gavin was so brave, sitting quietly and he even got to push some buttons.

She ended up having to get 2 stitches on her forehead. It was horrible when we had to swaddle her and hold her down. She screamed worse than ever when she was getting the stitches.

My poor sweet baby :( I feel so horrible. I hope it doesn't leave a bad scar.

This was her before the stitches :(

Her eyes are all swollen from crying :(

Merry frigging Christmas

Christmas vacation

I'm sitting outside in the backyard with the sun shining down on me. My coat is open and I'm warm. The grass is green. Yet Christmas is only 3 sleeps away.

This weather is beautiful but it doesn't look like we are getting snow for Christmas :(

John is off for 5 days and it's going too fast! He was just finishing a stretch of graveyard shifts do he spent the first day catching up on sleep and even a bit yesterday. Anyway we are trying to get stuff done around the house so Gavin is at pajama day at "school" and Justin is here to watch Eden.

I have to go to Rona and get paint for the laundry room. I already sprayed the mold killer because there is mildew on the cement. I have to let it soak overnight then paint it with special paint. The amount of spiders and huge webs I removed from the ceiling is disgusting. Still have to clean the 2 bedrooms down there cuz my parents ate bringing their folding camping beds and sleeping in one room and then my sister will sleep in the other room which has the single bed in there.

The basement renos are starting beginning of January and Joyce and Dave will move in late march or so.

So ya...gotta get busy!

Just what you always wanted

Here is our Christmas card :)

And we are going to get a bunch of picture frames and give out family pics to our parents and close family. Is that arrogant? Lol here is just what you always wanted! A picture of us!!

My mom ordered these ones

I ♥ Annya! We can't afford gifts which is why we did this. I hope I can get some decently priced frames. We don't need anything fancy except for the 8X10 we are keeping for our living room. Its about time miss Eden was in the family picture on the wall! She is so sweet. Our family feels so complete now.
